2025 "China Construction Bank Cup" The 13th Tour of Poyang Lake International Cycling Competition will be held in 11 places across the province from September 15th to 26th.
On September 15, the 13th "China Construction Bank Cup" 2025 Tour of Poyang Lake International Cycling Competition officially kicked off in Lushan City, Jiujiang. In this Tour of Po, Phoenix Phoenix-SCOM-Hengxiang Intercontinental Racing Team strives to reach the top and has performed in the first three stages. At 7 pm on September 14, the opening ceremony of the 2025 "China Construction Bank Cup" 13th Poyang Lake International Cycling Competition was held at the Camping Park of Lushan City, Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province. The 22 participating teams are all composed of professional teams, continental teams and national teams, attracting about 220 top cyclists, team leaders and coaches from 33 countries, Hong Kong and Taiwan. They will compete fiercely together on the beautiful land of Ganpo.
The competition lasted 11 days and passed through Jiujiang Lushan, Jiujiang Yongxiu, Nanchang Wanli, Yichun Tonggu, Pingxiang Lotus, Xinyu Fairy Lake, Fuzhou Zixi, Fuzhou Guangchang, Ji'an Taihe, Ganzhou Anyuan, and Ganzhou Shangyou. All 11 stations were included in the UCI Asian Tour sequence. The total mileage of the event is as high as 3027.3 kilometers, of which the race distance is 1061.3 kilometers and the transition distance is 1966 kilometers. A total of 25 sprint points and 12 climbing points are set up in 11 stages. It is not only the professional road cycling race with the most events and the longest total mileage in Asia this year, but also an important manifestation of Jiangxi Sports' new breakthroughs in internationalization and professionalization.
The first stage starts from Lushan Mountain. Lushan City is located in the north of Jiangxi Province, in the hinterland of Poyang Lake. Su Shi, a poet of the Song Dynasty, lamented that "I don't know the true face of Mount Lu because I am in this mountain." Li Bai, a poet of the Tang Dynasty, wrote a famous line through the ages: "The stream flying down three thousand feet is like the Milky Way falling from the sky." "Infinite scenery lies on dangerous peaks" was Mao Zedong's sincere admiration for Lushan Mountain. Among the famous Chinese literary works, Tao Yuanming's "The Peach Blossom Spring" and "Returning to Come Back", Li Bai's "Looking at Lushan Waterfall", Zhou Dunyi's "Love of the Lotus" and Su Dongpo's "Inscription on the Western Forest Wall" were all born here.
At 10 a.m. on September 15, the competition officially started at Lushan City Camp Park. The stage is 88.6 kilometers long, with two sprint points, a level 4 climbing point and an HC level climbing point.
The first race encounters HC-level climbing points and extreme hot weather, which is a great test for the players. When competitors enter the Lushan Scenic Area stage, they need to climb sharply from about 100 meters above sea level to about 1,000 meters above sea level.
Among the lineup sent by the Phoenix Phoenix-SCOM-Hengxiang Intercontinental Team this time, there are two climbing masters, Jonas and Cyrus. In the flat road stage, Jonas could still cooperate with his teammates. When entering the mountains, the team members fell out of the breakout group one after another. At this moment, Jonas was alone and could not help, but he clung to the breakout group and attacked with all his strength. After passing the HC grade climbing point, Jonas was the only one left in the breakout group of the Hengxiang Intercontinental Team. In the last 2 kilometers, Jonas, who was exhausted, still launched a strong attack and was overtaken 200 meters before the finish line, finishing fifth in this stage.
The second stage came to Yongxiu, Jiujiang. Yongxiu County is one of the four major groups in the national-level Ganjiang New Area. It is located in the north of Jiangxi Province and on the west bank of Poyang Lake. It means "Pan is close to the water and will always benefit from it". The track design integrates the local human history and the ecology of Poyang Lake, passing through historical and cultural heritage such as the style Lei ancestral house, and ecological landscapes such as "The Most Beautiful Water Highway".
On September 16, Yongxiu Station started. This stage is 104.3 kilometers in total. The stage is mainly characterized by loops on flat roads, with two sprint points on the way. On the west bank of Poyang Lake, drivers need to deal with the tactical layout of alternating corners and straights in high-speed sprints.
Phoenix Phoenix-SCOM-Hengxiang Intercontinental Team actively participated in the breakout at the beginning of the game. Maris and Cyrus, the team's sprint leaders, contributed wonderful performances in the first half of the race, and also created favorable conditions for teammate Roy.
In the last 5 kilometers of the wide urban track, the heroes lined up and the swords were at war. Multiple teams pulled out sprint trains at the same time and started a fierce battle for position in the corners. The Phoenix Phoenix-SCOM-Hengxiang Intercontinental Team was also among them, and the competition entered a fierce stage. The Yongxiu stage has been a "must-contest place" in previous Tour de Po races. This competition showed everyone's determination to compete for rankings and points. However, in the last 1 kilometer of sprint stage, fierce competition caused many riders to crash and miss the finish line just a stone's throw away.
Many teams were affected by the crash, and many sprint trains were disrupted. Many times, we cannot predict unexpected events. We can only try our best to achieve our goals, accept that things go against our expectations, continue to be enthusiastic and ready to go again.
The third stage came to Nanchang Bay. Wanli is located in the northwest of Nanchang. It is an ecological highland with high forest coverage and excellent air. It has been awarded many ecological titles and is the "natural oxygen bar" and "urban green lung" of Nanchang City.
At 9 a.m. on September 17, the hill climb lap race started at Meiling in Nanchang Bay. This stage is 107.9 kilometers long and consists of 3 laps. There are three sprint points along the track, located at 28 kilometers, 62.3 kilometers and 96.6 kilometers respectively. There are also three first-level climbing points. After completing three laps, the riders’ cumulative climb will reach more than 1,600.
The Phoenix Phoenix-SCOM-Hengxiang Intercontinental team still had many attempts in this stage. Jonas and Maris joined the breakout group at the beginning of the stage and maintained their advantageous position until the final stage.
In this stage, the climbing altitude and high temperature still pose huge challenges to the athletes. The team’s idea at this station is still to maintain Jonas’s advantage, and the three laps of hill climbing also eliminated many players. In the end, Jonas and Maris returned to the finish line in a relatively advanced position. For Maris, a sprinter who is good at flat road stages, this time he helped Jonas strive for an advantage and provide assists in the climbing stage, successfully completing the goal of this stage.
As the team's outstanding sprint leader, Maris fulfilled his deputy's task very well. His hard work and assists perfectly illustrate the importance of teamwork in road cycling competitions.
