2025 "ICBC Cup" The 24th Tour of America Qinghai International Road Cycling Race will grandly open on July 5 in Xining, Qinghai. Phoenix Phoenix-Scom-Hengxiang Intercontinental Team will send six riders including Rapp Jonas (Germany), Bogdanovics Maris (Latvian), HORVAT ZIGA (Slovenian), Monk Cyrus Walter (Australian), Shakotko Aleksandr (Russian), Karabutov ILYA (Kazakhstan) to compete.

The competition will be held in 8 stages from July 6 to 13. Athletes will start in Xining, pass through the Menyuan flower fields, pass through the Qilian Mountains, and compete at the famous scenic spot Qinghai Lake. Overview of the Tour of the Lake Race

The Tour of Qinghai Lake International Road Cycling Race, referred to as the "Tour of the Lake", has been held since 2002 and is held every year from June to August in the Tour of Qinghai Lake area in Qinghai Province. Approved by the International Cycling Union, the Tour of the Lake race is rated 2.HC. It is Asia's top multi-day cycling road race and the highest international road cycling race in the world. The characteristics of high altitude, long distance and multiple climbs make the race particularly exciting, with high viewing angle and strong team ability. The route design of the race is centered on the Qinghai Lake with vast blue waves and bird wings like clouds, and extends to the surrounding areas such as the eastern agricultural area of Qinghai, the pastoral and desert area of western Qinghai, and the alpine meadow grassland area of the Qingnan Plateau. The natural scenery along the way is majestic and charming.

Event name change reveals strategic upgrade

From "Round the Lake Race" to "Round the Beautiful Qinghai"

On March 29, 2025, a major change was announced at the 100-day countdown event in Xining - the "Tour of Qinghai Lake International Road Cycling Race" was officially upgraded to the "Tour of Great America Qinghai International Road Cycling Race". This is not only a change of name, but also a comprehensive expansion of the format and vision of the event.

This competition is scheduled to open in Xining City on July 5 and end in Haiyan County, Haibei Prefecture on July 13. It will last for 8 days and have 8 stages. The total mileage of the event is 1,400 kilometers, including 1,325 kilometers of competition distance, 65 kilometers of transition distance, and 10 kilometers of honor riding. The route design realizes the seamless connection of various terrain types such as flat roads, mountains, hills, etc., and maintains the plateau characteristics of an average altitude of 3,000 meters.

The award system of the event not only follows international practices but also reflects regional characteristics: the setting of professional awards such as the individual overall score champion (yellow jersey), climbing king (polka dot jersey), sprint king (green jersey), Asia's best driver (blue jersey), team overall score champion, Asian team winning award, etc., making the event a top competitive stage for global professional drivers to compete.

Liu Xinghai, deputy director of the Qinghai Provincial Sports Bureau, emphasized at the press conference that this event strictly complies with the International Cycling Union (UCI) professional series competition standards and innovatively builds an operating mechanism of "government leadership, market operation, local coordination, and social participation", allowing the event to continue to be ranked first in the cycling category of "China's Top 100 Most Sponsored Sports Events".

Hengxiang Team’s cycling trail around the lake

Hengxiang Intercontinental Cycling Team was established in 2010

In the history of the development of Chinese cycling, the China Hengxiang Intercontinental Professional Cycling Team has written an important chapter. This team, registered in the International Cycling Union in 2010, represents the highest level of road cycling in China.

Team leader Wang Meiyin has an indissoluble bond with the Lake Tour. In 2009, at the age of 20, he participated in the Tour of Qinghai Lake International Road Cycling Race for the first time in a professional race. In the following more than ten years, Hengxiang Racing Team has trained a number of outstanding riders such as Liu Jianpeng, Ma Guangtong, and Zhang Zheng, and has become the backbone of Chinese cycling.

Li Fuyu, the soul of the team, is even more a legend in Chinese cycling. In 2006, he won the Westphalian Grand Prix in Germany, becoming the first Chinese to win the European Cycling Championship. In the same year, he joined the world-class American Discovery Channel Racing Team and became teammates with Armstrong.

After reorganization in 2023, Hengxiang Team has shown strong strength in the China Road Cycling Professional League in the 2025 season. In this Tour of America Qinghai race, on the basis of retaining the meritorious foreign aid Maris, the team has introduced German national team athlete Rupp and other strong aids to strive for ranking in the flat track stage.
