After a fierce battle at Wuzhishan and breaking through the "Queen's Stage" against the odds, Hengxiang's captains both entered the top 20!

The 16th Tour of Hainan Island International Road Cycling Race kicked off grandly. The event level is UCI 2.pro. It is co-sponsored by the State Sports General Administration and the Hainan Provincial People's Government, and co-organized by the Chinese Cycling Association, the Hainan Provincial Department of Tourism, Culture, Radio, Television and Sports, and various departments in Hainan cities.  

Quick overview of Stage 02

On April 9, 2025, the 16th Tour of Hainan Island International Road Cycling Race ushered in the key round - the third stage "Lingshui-Qiongzhong-Wuzhishan-Baoting" Queen Stage.

The 212.6-kilometer devil track covers 1 first-level climbing point (the highest altitude is 785 meters), 1 second-level climbing point and 2 third-level climbing points, with a cumulative climbing altitude of more than 3,300 meters. The race lasts for more than 5 hours and spans tropical rainforest, karst landforms and Li villages. It is called "purgatory in the clouds" by riders.

In this "Battle of Tianwang Mountain" that determines the overall ranking, the Phoenix Phoenix Scom Hengxiang Intercontinental Team gradually found its form, and many team members showed extraordinary strength. In the end, Jonas and Cyrus were both shortlisted for the top 20 in the Queen Stage!

The race starts immediately after the first sprint point and then the first climbing point. The pace of the race is changeable and the conditions are full of challenges and unknowns. In the first half of the more than 100-kilometer race, Slovenian player Ziga kept himself in the first echelon and broke through to the first-level climbing point of the Queen Stage, which is the most exciting part of this stage, the "Island Cloud Summit", Wuzhishan Toutuo Ridge. This breakout fully demonstrated the player's very strong comprehensive ability and also provided favorable counterattack conditions for teammates.

After crossing Toutuo Ridge and taking over the baton from Ziga, two breakout madmen, Jonas from Germany and Cyrus from Australia, chased all the way and joined the first group from a relatively lagging position.

Cyrus, the "King of Daredevils" who played steadily and boldly, showed his amazing strength as always, and finally finished 15th in the single-station personal score.

It is worth mentioning that Jonas, as a new member of this year’s team, proved his strength to everyone in the final breakout stage of this stage. Although he was affected by some influences, he still advanced into the top 20 and ranked 17th. He is also a player worth looking forward to.

What is gratifying is the performance of Chinese player Gao Yongbing in this stage. His experience in mountain biking on many platforms was tested in this showdown of kings. Although he unfortunately failed to capture the first group before the finish line, he still ranked first among Chinese players.

In this difficult stage where the total score was reshuffled, the Phoenix Phoenix Scom Hengxiang Intercontinental Team, with tacit cooperation, completed a perfect counterattack and jumped into the top ten in the team score. It is currently ranked 7th, building its own Great Wall with iron will!

Being able to advance into the top 20 in this stage is a very worthy achievement for the players and the team. After the game, team manager Li Fuyu said rigorously: "We had a lot of footage in today's live broadcast, because our players always alternately stay in the first echelon. But for the team, it is a little regrettable compared to our expected results. We still need more running-in, and strive to get each team member to perform at their best and compete for better results."
